Downtown Long Beach Loft Living

Its a Lifestyle

Temple Lofts 835 Locust Ave Long Beach CaliforniaLong Beach Loft Lifestyle

Living close to the beach, or in large urban cities we become accustomed to smaller square footage.  For those with a need to move into a more urban environment or to be beach close, sacrificing that square footage can be a very difficult experience. Long Beach Lofts provide the opportunities of city life; proximity to Downtown nightlife, culture and employment, while providing far more space than the average condo. Long Beach lofts are also walking distance to Pine Avenue, the beach, Rainbow Harbor and the marina.

As more people transition to working from home our housing needs have changed as well.  We have different spacial requirements in our homes, home work/office space has become critical.  Lofts provide for our more modern needs.

For those who crave living in big open space loft lifestyle is a great choice.  Lofts provide open space allowing freedom of movement which is not possible with the constriction of walls.  Many lofts were once industrial or commercial buildings with high ceilings, large windows and sweeping space.  Once gutted they were raw spaces which a person with a flair for design could easily make their own, not unlike a tear down home.   Both New York and Chicago are famous for converting useless and abandoned industrial space into artists' lofts.  These lofts were large cavernous spaces with wonderful light, high ceilings and often had large, interesting windows which could easily be integrated into the design; they were perfect. In my opinion it is a natural transition for these types of buildings to eventually have become viable living spaces.

Kress Lofts 100 W 5th St Long Beach CaliforniaLong Beach lofts are generally not raw space they are usually live/work space with high ceilings, open floor plans and plenty of light.  Most of the lofts in Long Beach are historic or landmark buildings which have been converted into residential lofts.  Builders have defined basic living space by installing kitchens, baths, bedroom/s, closet/s and storage space in most of the newly converted lofts in Long Beach. Doing this eliminated the after purchase expense of build out for the buyer and problems attaining financing.  Lenders do not like to lend on raw space and most will not finance without an existing kitchen and bath.

Lofts do tend to be a bit noisier than the average home.  Area rugs, window and wall coverings and defined spaces will cut down on the noise.  With the exception of kitchens and baths, loft living spaces can be highly functional, spaces can be easily moved around to accommodate your needs and can be defined in many attractive and unique ways.   While defining spaces it is possible to leave them easily adaptable, for instance decorative screens can create an additional bedroom area for guests, or specific areas can be moved around to accomodate larger scale entertaining.

Ebell Lofts 1100 E 3rd St Long Beach CaliforniaLofts are usually more attractive to those with a more eclectic flair. With endless decorating possibilities lofts are a great opportunity to mix the old with the new.  Perhaps unique windows were restored and can be left uncovered or an old wood floor may be left in place lending grace to the condo/loft, once sanded and polished to a new gleam.  Plop a brand new plush Italian leather couch onto the area rug in that living room and your loft is already warming up.  Go modern, go historic, go anywhere your taste and purse allow you to go.  A loft is a unique space that is uniquely yours!  The design possibilities in wide open spaces are only limited by your imagination. Go ahead and get your swank on!

Lakewood Plaza and Rancho Neighborhoods of Long Beach

Lakewood Plaza and Rancho Neighborhoods of Long Beach area information

Lakewood Plaza Rancho - Long Beach Real Estate

Lakewood Plaza Rancho Neighborhood of Long Beach California

If you are seeking a tree lined, quiet, well established neighborhood with a family atmosphere...you'll love the Lakewood Plaza Rancho community.

It's located close to Long Beach's El Dorado Park where your family can enjoy a day of golf or a picnic in the park. Nearby freeways are easily accessible and make for an easy commute to work and shopping. The Plaza area is home to Cubberley School, a K-8 California Distinguished School.

Ranch style homes are the specialty

Built up between 1950 and the late 1960s, this neighborhood is well known for its open floor plan Ranch style homes. Whether you´re looking for a smaller starter home with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath or a spacious family home with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, you'll find it here. There are homes from 850 square feet to over 1,700 square feet.

Of particular interest are the Cliff May ranch-style homes, built in the early 50's, for which The Rancho's are famous. Considered by many to be the father of the California ranch-style house, Cliff May was a builder with extraordinary vision of what the ideal California home should encompass. He believed homes should be designed for livability rather than facade and designed about 18,000 of these beautiful homes as well as more than 1000 custom homes across the United States. His additional goal of bringing the outdoors in was achieved in his designs by incorporating large expanses of glass creating a home that was filled with natural light bringing the outside gardens in, vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams, clean lines with little decoration, attached garages, large patios with sliding glass doors, and rooms that flow into each other.

As you can imagine, the classic, mid-century Cliff May style homes are highly desirable and as a result rarely come on the market. If you're interested in finding out more about the availability of these fabulous homes, give Laurie Manny, your Rancho's real estate expert, a call at (562) 212-5420.

Belmont Heights Neighborhood of Long Beach California Resource Guide

Belmont Heights Neighborhood of Long Beach California Resource Guide

BELMONT HEIGHTS REAL ESTATE - LONG BEACH REAL ESTATE

Belmont Heights - Long Beach California

Belmont Heights is a lovely, ecclectic mix of early century homes, low rise condos, smaller apartment buildings (including some fabulous spanish duplexes), restaurants, coffee shops, funky stores, galleries and a nice mix of neighborhood friendly small business. Just blocks from the bluffs, overlooking the harbor, the beach, and a short walk into Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights is a tree lined Long Beach Community developed in the early 20th Century, and a great place to call home. Many of the neighborhood homes were originally built as summer cottages mostly between 1905 and 1939, later becoming year round residences. More bungalow style homes can be found here than in any other community of Long Beach.

In Belmont Heights you will find a wonderful array of beautifully crafted Long Beach homes in many styles; the Craftsman Bungalow predominating with about 2/3 of the homes in the area. Other home styles found in the Belmont Heights neighborhood are:

  • Belmont Heights Real EstateVictorian 1890s - 1910
  • Craftsman Bungalow 1905 - 1922
  • Mission Revival 1915 - 1925
  • Spanish Colonial Revival 1925 - 1939
  • Tudor Revival 1920s
  • Neo-Traditional 1930 - 1940s
  • Streamline Moderne 1930s
  • Mediterranean

Belmont Heights boundaries are Ocean Boulevard (and Livingston Drive) to the south, Redondo Avenue on the west, 7th Street to the North, and Cherry Avenue to the east.

Belmont Heights Historic District boundaries are approximately Newport Avenue on the West; 7th Street on the North; Roswell Avenue on the East; and 4th Street on the South. Map of the Belmont Heights Historic District

Relocating to Long BeachIf you are considering relocating to Long Beach, Belmont Heights would be a great consideration. Affordable and beach close, convenient to all area ammenities and freeway close this would be a smart choice. We are about 20 minutes south of Los Angeles Airport - LAX, about 20 minutes North of John Wayne Airport in Irvine and even have our own airport. Long Beach Airport is a major hub for Jet Blue Airlines (my personal favorite) and is extremely easy to fly in and out of. The City of Long Beach has great employment opportunities; the Port of Long Beach being the largest. We have a little something for just about everybody.

Moving Tips for Long Beach Home Buyers - Long Beach Real Estate

Moving Tips for Long Beach Home Buyers and Sellers - Long Beach Real Estate

Moving Tips for Long Beach Home Buyers and Sellers

How exciting buying a new home!  Until the reality of actually moving occurs.  We all hate moving!

Moving tips for Long Beach Home BuyersMost first time buyers are working harder, longer hours and are juggling their schedules to find time to look for their new home.  When they actually purchase finding the time to pack and move often becomes problematic.

When I moved across the country some 24 years ago I had to really think about what I was moving.  We all have collections of 'stuff' dating back to our childhood which we do not want to part with.  We just cart it from attic to attic.  At some point some of this 'stuff' has go to go. Most of our 'stuff' lands in closets, attics and garages taking up space and collecting dust.

Take time before your move to purge.  Go through all of your 'stuff' and get real.  Do you need this?  Will you ever use it again?  Is it worth moving this item?  You will be surprised at how much 'stuff' you can part with.

Do you have clothing in your closet that you haven't worn in over a year? Do you really think you will wear it again?  No?  Donate it, somebody, somewhere needs it.

When I first went through my closets I was only willing to let go of a little bit of my 'stuff'.  I spent 6 weekends going through the same closets, each week I would let go of a little more.  Initially it was really hard to let go of many of my belongings, but as the weeks moved along it became easier and easier.  The bonus was a great feeling of 'lightening up'.

Don't start to box up until you have purged, you will pack and move a lot less stuff.  You will be happy you did!

Important Long Beach Home Buyer Tips

This important article highlights issues that many first time home buyers do not consider, that being the remaining life of the existing systems currently in the home and the cost of future replacement:
